4-mile Bike Ride: Groceries, Picnic, and History

Sat. June 18th, 12:00-2:30 p.m. Rain date: June 25th

Norwood Cooperative Bank parking lot, Park and Broadway street.

This short ride is suitable for beginners. It follows the Together, Yes bike safety event, at the same location.

We will ride to Hannaford Supermarket and buy fixings for an simple cold pot-luck picnic at Ellis Pond. Then John Grove will take us on a 20-minute ride through the old Winslow Tannery complex, now an industrial park on Endicott St., and explain its role in the industrial history of Norwood.

To ride, you must wear a helmet, either be a member or join on the spot, sign a waiver, and pay or pledge $15 annual dues. Be prepared to pay for your share of groceries.

The purpose of this ride is to get acquainted, to encourage new riders to get on their bikes and “Ride More, Ride Here," and to show Hannaford that customers don't always arrive in cars.

The ride is about 4 miles total. Most of it will be on Nichols Street, a marked bicycle route, but with moderate hills and a short segment on Route 1A.
