New England's Largest Volume Liquor Store Coming To Norwood

Tuesday night, the selectmen approved a liquor license transfer to Yankee Spirits.

NORWOOD, MA — The store that claims to be the largest volume spirits, wine and beer store in New England is opening a new location in Norwood.

Tuesday, the board voted 4-0-1 to approve a liquor license transfer from Wine X Press to Yankee Spirits. The new store will be located at 942 Boston Providence Turnpike, behind the Honeybaked Ham building. Selectwoman Helen Abdallah Donohue abstained from voting due to her family's ownership of a liquor store.

On their website, the company says they carry 7,000 wines, 3,500 spirits, and 2,600 beers.

The location, as noted by Selectman Allan Howard, was originally supposed to be home to an auto repair shop. James Hillard, an attorney for Yankee Spirits, said the people behind the repair shop found a new location and it would have needed various special permits and variances from the zoning board of appeals.

Yankee Spirit has other locations in Attleboro, Sturbridge, and Swansea. When it opens, the hours will be 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sundays.
