Austin Reardon 5K returning to Norwood (norwoodrecord.com) — Norwood residents are invited to join the third Austin Reardon Memorial 5K on Sunday, Oct. 11 at the Norwood Knights of Columbus, supporting scholarships for Norwood students and sock donations to Pine Street Inn. The community-focused race honors a beloved Norwood High graduate, draws friends back from out of state, and features about 30 raffle baskets funded by generous local businesses and families.
   

2. Schools study on Capital Plan (norwoodrecord.com) — Norwood's Capital Outlay Committee narrowly voted 5–4 to place a $150,000 Schools Facilities Assessment Study on the FY27 capital plan, despite concerns about shrinking free cash and looming budget gaps. School and town leaders debated whether to prioritize long-term school maintenance planning over deferred needs like library generators and sidewalk repairs as Norwood faces a possible multi‑million‑dollar deficit by FY28.
   

3. Police release photos of possible arsonist in Norwood (boston.com) — Norwood Police are asking residents near Lane Drive, Bruce Road, and surrounding streets to review home surveillance from the night of Sept. 19 after a person was filmed pouring suspected gasoline and a fire was set outside a home. If you saw anything unusual or recognize the individual in police photos, you're urged to contact Detective Ryan Marchant or submit an anonymous email tip.
   

4. Stonecutting demo coming to Old Parish (norwoodrecord.com) — Norwood history buffs can catch a live stonecutting demonstration at Old Parish Cemetery on Oct. 10, inspired by work recreating a historic Norwood headstone. Stonecutter Andrew Carr will explain traditional techniques, symbolism like willows and urns, and how he carefully reconstructed Mary Dean's early-1800s memorial. It's a rare chance to see this fading craft up close and connect it to Norwood's past.
