- Little League: Peabody American lost to Saugus National Sunday afternoon in its opening game of the District 16 Williamsport Tournament and will now play East Lynn next Saturday at . Whichever team loses this game will be knocked out of the double-elimination tournament. Peabody National and reigning district champion Peabody West take the diamond in Pine Hill Park tomorrow (5:45 p.m.).
- Softball: Soundly thumping Swampscott Friday, the Peabody West Majors softball all-stars are headed to the championship game Wednesday in Swampscott (5:30 p.m.). The losers bracket still needs to play out over the next couple days to determine who they will face. Also the junior/senior all-stars begin District 16 tournament play today at Marblehead against Marblehead (5:30 p.m.).
- Preparations are moving right along for the Jim Rice Memorial Softball Tournament, reports the Fire Department. Lt. Tracy Collins is the point person organizing the tournament, which is slated for Aug. 18-19 and open to teams of firefighters, police and EMS personnel. You can find more information at jimricesoftballtournament.com. All proceeds will be donated to the family of late Firefighter James Rice.

- Fore! The is offering golf lessons for youth and adults this summer. Learn to golf or touch up your skills with Peter Cronan, manager of , over at the Golf Country driving range at Richardson's in Middleton. Cronan will be offering four-week sessions for juniors and adults. If you have your own clubs, bring them. If not, clubs can be available for use during class. To register, stop by at 50 Farm Ave. or register online. Junior classes are $100 and adult classes are $115; non-residents add $5. If you have questions, call 978-536-7130.
