Driver Runs Over Lawn Trying to Dodge Pothole

Driver tore up a person's lawn while trying to avoid a pothole in the street and a Lynn pair were arrested after motor vehicle stop, charged with possession of burglary tools and shoplifting. The woman also had 7 warrants out for her arrest.

The following are excerpts of reports in the Peabody police log from Wednesday to Friday.

June 1

  • 3:16 p.m. Matthew L. Holiday, 30, of 21 Sutton St., Peabody, was arrested near Eastern Bank on Foster Street for driving with a suspended license, no inspection sticker and failure to wear a seat belt, following a motor vehicle stop.
  • 3:42 p.m. Shanna Sarrette, 34, of 39 Batcheller St., Lynn, was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop near Pilgrim Nursing Home on Forest Street. She was charged on seven warrants along with possession of burglary tools and a second offense of shoplifting. The warrants originated out of Hingham, Quincy, Lynn, Salem and Peabody district courts mostly on shoplifting charges, but for various forms of identity fraud as well, in some cases to obtain drugs or prescription medication. Steven C. Bagley, 39, of 79 Batcheller St., Lynn, was also arrested and charged with a third offense of shoplifting and possession of burglary tools.
  • 4:32 p.m. An officer reported the rear bumper of a vehicle parked on Sutton Street had profanity scrawled on it. Some prescription medication and a backup monitor were also taken from the vehicle.
  • 5:07 p.m. Vitalino H. Chilel Mendez, 21, of 76 Union St., Lynn, was arrested for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding, following a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of First Avenue and Lynnfield Street.
  • 8:43 p.m. A gray Honda Civic struck a tree at the intersection of Lowell Street and Peabody Road. No injuries were reported and the car was towed away.
  • 8:49 p.m. A 16-year-old female was arrested and charged with three counts of receiving stolen property under $250 and one count of shoplifting, following a report of a shoplifter at Macy’s.
  • 9:37 p.m. A caller reported a motor vehicle accident on Lowell Street at the Route 128 ramp. A 33-year-old man driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee was transported to Salem Hospital.
  • 10:42 p.m. A caller reported a green Toyota Camry was towing a scooter down Russell Street and the scooter was veering in and out of the marked lane. An officer said there was a lawn mower in the trunk. The driver was given a verbal warning.

June 2

  • 12:32 a.m. Derek Savage, 18, of 24 Pleasant St. #2, Peabody, was arrested, following a report of a car into a pole on Lowell Street at the Route 1 overpass. Savage was evaluated by EMTs at the scene and refused ambulance transport. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. PMLP was at the scene to replace the pole.
  • 8:49 a.m. An officer reported that while at the Community School, he saw a male party yelling on the telephone. The male was arguing with his mother over missing prescription medications — klonopin and suboxin. She told another officer her son stole the drugs and she would seek a restraining order the next day. She gave the officer a bag containing her son’s personal belongings, which were dropped off for him at school. Another male party was transported to Salem Hospital. Larceny charges were not sought at the time.
  • 8:53 a.m. An officer reported a motor vehicle drove over a homeowner’s lawn at the corner of Theresa Road and Surrey Lane while apparently trying to avoid a pothole.
  • 11:17 a.m. Patrick Richardson, 30, of 300 Commandt Way #302, Chelsea, was arrested in Medford on a Peabody police warrant on charges of breaking and entering, larceny and destruction of property.
  • 12:37 p.m. A large sink hole was reported in the middle of Russell Street near No. 167. DPS arrived to fill the hole.
  • 2:10 p.m. Pichkiery Prak, 25, of 177 Washington St. #1, Lynn, was arrested for driving with a suspended license, following a motor vehicle stop on Lynnfield Street.
  • 2:19 p.m. Police responded to a report of an assault at the Dunkin’ Donuts at 527 Lowell St.
  • 4:48 p.m. Edwin A. Canelo, 32, of 43 Cabot St., Salem, was arrested  for driving with a revoked license, following a motor vehicle stop on Tremont Street.
  • 5:03 p.m. Brian M. Stevens, 29, of 33 Taylor St., Georgetown, was arrested for a second offense of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving recklessly so as to endanger and possession of a Class E drug, following a car accident at the corner of Summit and Forest streets. Police responded to a report of a car into the woods. A telephone pole was damaged by the car. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but no injuries were reported.
  • 5:22 p.m. Police responded to a report of vandalism to a motor vehicle parked on Perley Avenue. The window and hood were damaged.
  • 5:46 p.m. Police responded to a two-car accident on Albert Road. Two vehicles were towed and the drivers of each car were transported area hospitals.
  • 8:47 p.m. A caller at the Southwyck Condominium Association on Foster Street reported someone broke into his apartment during the day. An officer said it was a dispute between a tenant and the landlord.
  • 10:49 p.m. A caller on Lone Pine Lane reported her son was punched in the leg earlier and was now in unbearable pain. He was transported to North Shore Children’s Hospital.
  • 11:04 p.m. A 20-year-old Peabody male was issued a summons for assault and battery, following a report of a fight involving several people on Ellsworth Road. A person was transported to Salem Hospital.

June 3

  • 1:28 a.m. A caller on Veterans Memorial Drive reported someone threw a rock through his window.
  • 3:28 a.m. Police and fire units responded to a garage fire on Columbia Boulevard. The flames were extinguished by the homeowner, however. An officer said the fire was due to spontaneous combustion from rag used to clean a mower.
  • 9:23 a.m. A caller on Styles Drive reported some landscaping equipment was stolen or went missing overnight.
  • 9:49 a.m. One person was transported to Salem Hospital, following a four-car accident near Sullivan Tire on Washington Street. Another driver was citied for failure to use care in starting or stopping.
  • 11:04 a.m. A caller at the Pioneer House on Washington Street reported her purse was stolen. The purse was found, but a wallet and cash were missing from it.
  • 12:40 p.m. A caller at Friendly’s Restaurant reported $500 was taken out of purse.
