Peabody Household Hazardous Waste Day Set For Saturday
Residents can unload anything from pesticides to TV monitors to old light bulbs at the Department of Public Services on July 30.
PEABODY, MA — Peabody residents will have their chance to clean house on July 30.
The annual Hazardous Waste Day will be that day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. when residents will be able to rid themselves of everything from old pesticides to light bulbs to computer monitors.
The event will be held rain or shine at the Department of Public Services on Farm Avenue.

The event is open to Peabody residents for $20 for up to 25 gallons or 25 pounds of hazardous waste material, and non-residents for limited hours for additional fees. There is an additional charge per item for electronics such as TVs or computer monitors.
Clean Harbors Environmental Services will accept oil-based paints (no latex paint), varnishes, pesticides, spray cans and other household hazardous chemicals.

Residents can also dispose of mercury-containing waste, including batteries, thermometers, thermostats and fluorescent lamps.
Waste oil, car batteries, tires and propane tanks can be dropped off at any time year-round during normal business hours.
The yard waste recycling center at the DPS will be closed that day.
A full list of accepted materials may be obtained from the Health Department at 978-538-5926 or the Department of Public Services at 978-536-0600, or on the City of Peabody website. Clean Harbors will not be accepting commercial/industrial waste, latex paint, ammunition, asbestos, radioactive material, fire extinguishers, or medical or biological wastes.
The $20 hazardous waste co-pay for residents can be paid by check to the City of Peabody. Proof of residency is required.
TVs and computer monitors will also be accepted with the purchase of a $20 sticker per item — which is available on site.
Non-residents may drop off materials only from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be required to pay the full fee ($30 for up to 3 pounds/gallons, $36 for up to 10 pounds/gallons or $60 for up to 25 pounds/gallons).
Leave materials in original labeled containers. Tighten caps and lids. Place containers in sturdy upright boxes rather than in garbage bags. Avoid smoking while handling hazardous materials.
Most importantly, do not mix chemicals.
