Peabody Light Commission Vacancy To Be Filled In February

The Peabody Light Commission is seeking candidates to fill out the remainder of Charles Bonfanti's term following his recent resignation.

PEABODY, MA — Peabody is looking for candidates to fill the vacancy on the Municipal Light Commission created by Charles Bonfanti's recent resignation.

Those interested should submit a notice of intent and resume by the Feb. 10 deadline. A joint meeting of the Municipal Light Commission and City Council will be held on Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. to choose someone to fill the vacancy.

Only candidates who submit a notice of intent and resume by noon on Feb. 10 are eligible for nomination and vote for the post. Those can be submitted to City Clerk Allyson Danforth at City Hall, 24 Lowell Street.

The person chosen will fill out the remainder of the term set to expire in January 2024 and will be eligible to run for re-election this November.

Bonfanti said he was resigning his seat earlier this month after 10 years as a result of the conflict over the fossil fuel-powered 55-kilowatt peak energy generator in the process of being built after state Department of Energy approval and set to go online later this year.

The Municipal Light Commission includes five members who serve six-year terms. There is a public meeting on the fourth Thursday of each month during the school year at the McCarthy Auditorium.
