Peabody Mayor Tests Positive For Coronavirus

PEABODY, MA — Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt announced he tested positive for coronavirus and said he was experiencing mild symptoms.

The mayor made the announcement on social media this weekend. He said he believes he contracted the illness through a member of his household.

"Fortunately, I have experienced mild symptoms and I'm feeling better," he said in a post from Saturday. "However, receiving such news really puts things in perspective.

"Although so many aspects of our lives have been upended this year, the holiday season reminds us that the love of family and friends truly means everything."

Bettencourt reiterated his appreciation for the support of residents and asked that those who live in Peabody continue to practice all coronavirus precautions.
