Selectman: Conversion Of Closed Hospital To Condos On Track

Most city officials are in the dark about the redevelopment in Peabody, which would create up to 135 units.

PEABODY, MA -- Ward 4 City Councilor Edward R. Charest says plans to convert the closed J.B. Thomas Hospital into condominiums for empty-nesters is on track. Charest told the Daily Item that he recieved those assurances from the project's developer, Hemisphere Development Group LLC, which paid $1.9 million for the property a year ago.

Charest, according to the newspaper, is the only city official in contact with the developer. "Honestly, we have no idea what’s going on," said Curt Bellavance, the city’s community development director. Plans call for creating as many as 135 units for people over the age of 55.
