Wheelchair-Bound Patient Steals Microwave at Doctors' Office

The following information was provided by the Peabody Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following excerpts are from reports in the  press log from May 22-23.

Tuesday, May 22

  • 2:15 p.m. An employee at Sports Medicine North reported a patient was captured on video stealing a microwave. Police said the thief was in a wheelchair.
  • 3:20 p.m. A Myles Road resident reported a home caretaker stole money from her. Police said $250 was taken from the house sometime in the first week of May.
  • 6:36 p.m. An 18-year-old Winthrop female was issued a summons for shoplifting at at the mall.
  • 7:06 p.m. Police responded to a report of a break-in at a Sunset Drive home. Police said entry was made through a rear window.

Wednesday, May 23

  • 1:05 a.m. Lori Ostrowski, 29, of 12 Robinson St. #3, Lynn, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and a marked lanes violation near Spinelli's on Route 1.
  • 2:29 a.m. Jennifer L. McGrath, 40, of 31 Undine Ave., Winthrop, was arrested, following a report of a suspicious motor vehicle at Babies R Us. McGrath, who was in a red 1997 Ford Mustang, was charged with possession of Class A and E (two counts) drugs, possession of a burglary tool, receiving stolen property over $250 and on a warrant for another drug charge.
  • 6:24 a.m. Police received a report that the headlights were stolen off a school bus parked on Pulaski Street. Bus No. 92 in the lot used by Salter Transportation for the district's school buses was missing its headlights and staff said the theft happened sometime since 4:30 p.m. the previous day.
  • 6:54 a.m. A Washington Street resident reported spaghetti sauce and relish were smeared onto her car and soap was put in the gas tank.
  • 8:48 a.m. A caller on North Central Street reported one of the cows from Dunajski Dairy was in his yard. Police attempted to notify the farm of the animal's whereabouts and later said the cow had been returned to the farm.
  • 9:42 a.m. A caller on Longwood Avenue reported a laptop computer and medications were stolen from a vehicle.
  • 11:47 a.m. A caller reported a large truck came speeding down Kosciusko Street and knocked down some branches and wires. Police said the wires appeared to Verizon lines that were already dead.
  • 1:34 p.m. A caller reported a man on crutches was walking down the median yellow line on Main Street near the Washington Street intersection and was heading toward Salem. Police were unable to find the man.
  • 1:36 p.m. A caller reported a large snapping turtle was under a car parked at . The caller said the turtle was snapping at kids. Police advised the person that Animal Control does not deal with wildlife and told the kids to stay away from the turtle and let it go on its way.
