August Events at Scusset Beach State Reservation
The Department of Conservation and Recreation's Scusset Beach Reservation hosts several family events during the summer months

All programs are free and open to the public. There is a $7 parking fee. Take water, wear sunscreen/bug spray, dress in layers, and wear good footwear. An adult must accompany children. Rain cancels. For more information, call 508-888-0859. Scusset Beach State Reservation is located at the end of Scusset Beach Road in Sandwich.
Wildlife Walk Tuesday, Aug. 2, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Search for park wildlife. Learn how to use a plankton net and binoculars. Find out where to look for birds, insects and signs of wildlife. Meet at the Fish Pier.

Beach Exploration: Beach Habitats Tuesday, Aug. 2, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.
You’ll enjoy this opportunity to explore Scusset Beach with the Park Interpreter. Each week, we will focus on a different topic, so join us each Tuesday for some fun at the beach. This week’s topic is Beach Habitats. Meet at the end of the Scusset Beach boardwalk.

Junior Rangers Wednesday, Aug. 3, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
This program captures the imagination of young people through activities that grow future stewards of the environment. Receive your official Junior Ranger Activity Guide, complete a fun activity with the Park Interpreter, and be on your way to earning your Junior Ranger Patch and Certificate. Meet at the Nature Center in the campground. This program is for children ages 8-12 only.
Sagamore Hill Hike Thursday, Aug. 4, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Explore the rich cultural and natural history of this area on this moderate walk to the summit of Sagamore Hill, culminating in a breathtaking view of Cape Cod Bay. The hill overlooking Scusset Marsh has a rich history from Indian Council ground to golf course to a World War II gun battery. Meet the Ranger at the entrance to the trail directly across from the Fish Pier Parking Lot. Parking fee is waived; let gate attendant know you are here to attend the Sagamore Hill Hike.
Creature Feature: Sea Stars & More Thursday, Aug. 4, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Learn about the sea stars and other creatures that live right here at Scusset Beach. View some live animals and other natural history artifacts. Meet at end of Scusset Beach boardwalk. Rain or heavy winds cancel.
Ocean Lab: Submarine Science Friday, Aug. 5, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Use fun science experiments to explore the exciting world of oceanography. Meet at the Nature Center in the campground.
Beachcomber Scavenger Hunt Saturday, Aug. 6, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Search for common seashore objects and discover the lore and history behind their found items. Meet at the end of the Scusset Beach Boardwalk.
Family Campfire Saturday, Aug. 6, 8 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Roast marshmallows, listen to Native American stories about our relationship to the natural world that we all live upon, and play some classic campfire games. Maybe share a story or song of your own too. Come to the group campfire circle in the campground. There is no parking fee for this program.
Investigating the Past Through Plants & Soil Tuesday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Clues to the past can be seen by learning to read the landscape. Find out how plants and soil provide a historical record of previous events both natural and man-made. Meet at the Scusset Beach Fish Pier.

Cape Cod Canal History Walk Friday, Aug. 12, 3 p.m. -3:45 p.m.
Join the Interpreter for a walk along Cape Cod Canal. Along the way, we will talk about the different uses of this land and the Cape Cod Canal, from Native American use of the land through today’s use of the Cape Cod Canal. Meet at the Fish Pier.

Have you explored the beach during a full moon? What happens when the sun goes down and the stars come out? Come find out. No flashlights allowed. Meet at the end of the Scusset Beach boardwalk. Take binoculars if you have them. No parking fee for this program

Join us at the Campfire ring in the campground for a night of music and fun. Local music group will be performing traditional Irish music around the campfire for all to enjoy. Take a chair or blanket, a drink and snack – and come along for some musical moments. There is no parking fee for this program.
