Can You Hear Me Chara? It's Me, Casey

Some people love politics and other people love football, I love hockey and baseball. I'm a Boston fan, Red Sox and Bruins, that's about it.

Some people love politics and other people love football, I love hockey…and baseball. I’m a Boston fan, Red Sox and Bruins, that’s about it. Basketball bores me, football even more so (except Tom Brady), so this blog is about Red Sox baseball and Bruins hockey.

But don’t expect me to know every stat ever invented, or even Papi’s batting average (although it’s hard to ignore Carl Crawford’s BA). I’m the type of fan who loves the game for the game, not the statistics, not the personalities; the game.

There’s nothing I enjoy more than sitting on the couch on a Saturday and watching the Sox, maybe taking a nap in the fourth, and waking up to catch the final three innings.

Nothing perhaps unless it’s yelling at the Bruins from said couch. My husband thinks I’m crazy, but I’m sure Chara and Bergeron can hear me.

I attend games when I can, but usually I catch them on TV or on the radio as I head home from covering the news in Plymouth. I freely admit to checking scores on my laptop and Blackberry during meetings.

It’s OK to ask me the score next time you see me at a meeting.

I’ll update this blog after games with my opinions on various players, referees, play-by-play announcers and the like. I might also make some wildly hyperbolic statements. Feel free to contradict me, call my opinions stupid, or tell me I’m dead wrong. You can also support me, I always enjoy someone who agrees with me.

Tonight I’ll be watching the Bruins take on the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 3, Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The B’s had me worried Monday night. There were some major problems in the third period that would have ended up as goals if it weren’t for Tim Thomas thinking he was Dominik Hasek from the late ’90s.

There were too many chances and the forwards were weak, they didn’t check, they didn’t force it. They weren’t lackadaisical, but they didn’t push. I know Philly’s defense is good, really good, but they didn’t have big man Chris Pronger, who’s out with an undisclosed injury that apparently left him unable to speak Monday night (Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said Pronger lost his voice).

The Bruins have a chance to shut Philadelphia up tonight. I’m not worried about last year, but the Bruins need to be determined if they want to get past that nightmare. They’ve already beheaded the Game 7 monster, now they need to tackle the demon of last year.

I'n not superstitious, but I'm wearing my Bourque sweater tonight.
