Computer Science Takes Trips to Plymouth Elementary Schools

Computer Science Instructor Tom Heslin has been very busy since former instructor Paula Morton retired early this past winter, but not to busy to plan the 10th annual Computer Science Child Game Elementary School Road Show these past two weeks. 

Students in Heslin's classes have been creating educational games geared toward third and fourth grade students following the Massachusetts Department of Secondary and Elementary Education Frameworks. Games were created for History, Geography, Basic Math, Physical and Earth Science, Grammar etc. 

Students started this project after the holidays and have been using their two 44-minute periods of the day to design, write, and test their games on Visual Studio 10.

Each day starting April 23, 7 students and Tom Heslin traveled to elementary schools accross Plymouth, including , , , , and . Classes had 30 minutes to play these games in the computer labs at the host schools with four classe a day. The "Comp-Sci" kids asked for constructive critisicm from the students on what they can do to improve. Following the 2-hour visiting time, Heslin traveled with seven different students every day to a lunch hour in a local fast food restraunt.

Thursday May 3, 7 more students will attend Federal Furnace and on Friday May 4, the final day of the program, 7 more students will attend a third day at South Elementary.
