Physical Activity Can Reduce the Risk of Breast Cancer Recurrence
Physical activity can reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence.

Overweight and obesity is a known risk factor for developing breast cancer, and previous research has demonstrated that it may also lead to poorer health outcomes during rehabilitation. A healthful diet high in fruits and vegetables has also been shown to help protect against cancer. And most recently, a literature review published in Oncology Nursing Forum examined the role of physical activity in the recurrence of breast cancer and breast cancer death. The study reviewed all of the available literature on the topic from a particular database up to December 2010 and found that in the majority of studies, physical activity had a protective effect against breast cancer death, and in the rest it exerted a small reduction in the risk of recurrence.
While more information is needed on the factors that influence women with breast cancer to exercise, given these findings, it appears that exercising is beneficial in a variety of ways for women who have or are at risk for breast cancer. Women should strive for the recommended 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and maintain a healthy weight for the best chance of avoiding new or recurring breast cancer.
