Plymouth Vocational Technical Studies: SkillsUSA District Competition

Plymouth South SkillsUSA attending District 1 Conference March 9 and Greater New Bedford RTHS

Mor than 100 participants will attend the SkillsUSA Massachusetts District 1  Competition, Friday March 9, at Greater New Bedford Regional Technical High School in New Bedford. Students will take written exams in their program at either Plymouth South or Plymouth North. It's the student's choice to compete in their "shop."

SkillsUSA Advisors Steve Medeiros and Amy Gendron along with other Vocational Technical Studies Teachers will be chaperoning this trip.

If students are in the finalists, they then get sent to the State Leadership & Skills Conference in Marlborough for three days at the end of April.

Vocational Schools in Massachusetts who are registered with SkillsUSA are assigned a District. There are 6 districts and those districts have one host school that students are sent to to compete in the District Competition.

  • Cosmetology under 500 hours,
  • Commercial Baking,
  • Culinary Arts,
  • Pre-School Teaching Assistant,

  • Medical Assistant,
  • Robotics,
  • Web Design,
  • Computer Programming,
  • Automotive, 
  • Plumbing,
  • Residential Wiring, 
  • Industrial Motor Control, 
  • Photography,
  • First Aid/CPR,
  • Marine Services Technology,
  • Power Equipment Technology,
  • Welding

 and the list goes on.

Three students will be taking a test and interview for State Executive Council. Those students are:

  • Current SkillsUSA Massachusetts State Treasurer Kaila O'Farrel
  • Plymouth South SkillsUSA Vice President Shannon Murphy
  • Plymouth South SkillsUSA Treasurer Heliana Alvarez
