Reading Calter

A commentary on Rep Calter's recap of this year's legislature and a few personal observations on the current elections.

Congratulations to state representatives Tom Calter and State Representative Vinny DeMacedo (as well as the whole of the House of
Representatives) as they adjourn for this legislative year. If any one has been paying attention, they'll note that it has been a struggle to come to fair and equitable compromise with so many robust, critical and emotional issues on the table.

It is  amazing that this budget passed as it did; increasing support to the municipalities, mandating healthcare cost containment, continuing services to seniors, children and small businesses (aka JOBS).

Of equal importance is the insight they used to strengthen the budget needed to assist our veterans; the current returnees as well as those who have so proudly served before them.

The fact that these measures were agreed upon without an increase in taxes, speaks reams of our own local, seasoned, professional and unabashedly bi-partisan state representatives!

I sincerely hope that Rep. Calter's legislative recap is well read by his constituents. There is a lot of information contained therein. People wondering about the budget will find answers.

I would also say; if you have questions, ask. If you have doubts, challenge. If you agree, say so. If you do not, say so. Open the discussion, don't be silent. YOU have an important voice, use it!

But above all, when you approach the voting polls November 6, remember who has worked for you, who it is that knows you and who YOU know will continue to serve Plymouth County and the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts with integrity and prudence.

Become informed, LISTEN carefully, and discern TRUTH.

I stress these requests because regrettably, many of our most significant campaigns, nationally and locally are being conducted in a disgraceful manner. No person, especially one who is requesting the public to select her/him for the honor of serving either the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or the United States of America as a representative of the people, should deign to behave with such reprehensible conduct. Not only is it detestable, it is absolutely uncivilized! It's not what MY father taught me.

I am, however, extremely proud and most appreciative of the fact that the three very respected and civilized Legislators from this district (I am of course, including State Senate President Therese Murray), have not, will not, and never have, fallen under that shameful ignominy.

With that being said, may I ardently remind you to vote?

And oh yes, please choose carefully, read the ballots BEFORE you check that box and, for all our sakes, please vote intelligently!
