How Much Are 650 Golf Balls Worth? $5 Million To This MA Family

A Plymouth County Superior Court jury awarded a Kingston family millions after their home was struck by hundreds of golf balls.

KINGSTON, MA — When Erik and Athina Tenczar moved into their new home on Indian Pond Country Club's 15th hole, they thought they were getting a beautiful golf course view and an errant ball or two in their backyard.

Instead, the Tenczars got a constant barrage of wayward balls — 651, in fact — careening onto their property, shattering multiple windows and preventing the family from enjoying their home.

A Plymouth County Superior Court jury felt the same way. In December, the jury decided Indian Pond Country Club was at fault for not protecting the couple's home and awarded the Tenczars $4.93 million, according to an NBC News report.

The family's home is at the bend of a severe leftward curve in the course, NBC reported, so golfers wanting to "cut the dogleg" would regularly tee off in hopes of clearing a tree line but would hit the home instead, the Tenczars claimed.

The Tenczars also sued the builders of their home, but settled with the company out of court, NBC reported.

The judgment is being appealed, the family's lawyer told NBC. Meanwhile, the golf course moved the tee box, hoping to discourage players from their preferred shortcut.
