Plymouth Rock Vandalism: Charges Sought Against 17-Year-Old
Plymouth police said charges of felony vandalism are being sought after 11 landmarks were vandalized with red spray paint on Feb. 17.
PLYMOUTH, MA — A 17-year-old Plymouth resident is being charged in the vandalism of Plymouth Rock and 10 other landmarks in town last week. Plymouth police Thursday said they are seeking 11 counts of felony vandalism and one count of misdemeanor trespassing charges against the teen.
A second case of vandalism occurred this weekend when a 9/11 memorial was spray-painted and a police officer statue was toppled and damaged. Plymouth police have said it is not clear if the two acts of vandalism are related.
Police said red spray paint was used to vandalize Plymouth Rock, Pilgrim Maiden at Brewster Garden, Four Fathers Monument, Memorial Bench in Brewster Garden, a concrete platform at Plymouth State Park, a decorative rock at the Plymouth town boat ramp, the town map at the corner of Main and North streets, and four decorative scallop shells in the downtown and waterfront area. Police said hours of video footage was reviewed before it was determined one suspect was responsible for each case in the Feb. 17 vandalism spree.
