Plymouth South girls basketball falls in tourney opener to Newton North. Plymouth South and Plymouth North hockey will square off this weekend.

The Plymouth South girls basketball team finished the regular Monday after a losee to Newton North in the first round of the MIAA girls basketball tournament.

A late season winning streak earned them a playoff berth against 17th seeded Newton North. However the Tigers of Newton had no trouble cooling the 16th seeded Panthers, defeating Plymouth South 51-38. Newton North will next play undefeated New Bedford High.

The much anticipated Plymouth North vs. Plymouth South quarterfinal hockey game will be played Saturday, March 5. The game will be held at 7 p.m. at the Bourne Gallo Ice Arena. The winner of the game will advance to play Mansfield or Coyle-Cassidy. The Panthers and Eagles have split their meetings this year with one win apiece.
