The Plymouth South Panthers beat North 4 to 1 to advance to next round of hockey playoffs against Coyle Cassidy.

The Plymouth South Panthers beat Plymouth North 4-1 to advance to next round of hockey playoffs against Coyle Cassidy.

Fans of both teams crowded the John Gallo Arena in Bourne, filling the frigid air with cheers. The game started a little late when some baby powder set off the smoke alarms, but the action started as soon as the puck hit the ice as the two teams pushed back and forth across the rink.

For the two teams, the battle came down to defensive prowess. South's assistant coach Gordie McClay credited goalie Matt Peltier with keeping the score down in spite of the pressure he was under from North's offense.

To seal the win, sophomore Gavin Yates put away two goals in quick succession. This left 30 seconds on the clock for North to answer, but the gap was too wide and the defense just too strong to overcome in that short time.

South will advance in the playoffs to face off against Coyle-Cassidy in the Division 2 South Semifinals.
