2 Quincy Cops, Firefighter Among 6 Hurt After Car Hits Gas Pump

Before hitting the pump, the driver struck a pedestrian, then knocked the fuel pump into another car, Quincy fire officials said.

QUINCY, MA — Six people, including two Quincy cops and a firefighter, were sent to the hospital after a car crashed into a gas pump Tuesday, setting off the fire suppression system. Emergency personnel responding to the crash at Prestige Gas on Franklin Street found a car barreled into one the pumps and another car, which the fuel pump fell on, fire officials said.

Fire officials said an elderly driver accidentally put his foot on the gas while in reverse. Before hitting the pump, the driver struck a pedestrian, then knocked the fuel pump into another car, deputy Fire Chief Tim Burchill told WHDH news.

While emergency crews worked, fire suppression chemicals expelled, covering first responders, the driver, and two pedestrians in fire retardant,a hazardous, snow-like substance. Six people including two police officers and a firefighter were taken to a local hospital , where they were treated for minor injuries after inhaling the chemicals.
