GoFundMe Campaign Aims to Help Quincy Man Who Lost Mom, Son in Fire

The donations to help Mike Powers are coming in.

QUINCY, MA — A GoFundMe campaign has been created to support a Quincy man that lost two family members in an overnight fire at Houghs Neck.

At about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Quincy fire responded to a two-alarm fire at a home on Bell St. While Mike Powers was able to make it out by jumping out a second floor window, his mother and 19-year-old son died in the fire.

"The death of any family member is devastating never mind two family members at the same time in such a horrific way. Mike lost everything- clothes, shoes, wallet with his id, and all of his family's possessions. We're establishing this fundraiser to help Mike get back on his feet," Jacqueline Wuestefelf, the creator of the campaign wrote.

Powers' home was rented, meaning that he'll have to find a new apartment and will need first and last rent, security deposit, furnishings, and basic essentials.

"Mikes's not one to ask for help but please if you can contribute to this cause it would be appreciated and if you are unable to contribute at this time, please keep Mike and his family in your thoughts and prayers," Wuestefelf wrote.
