No Jail Time for Braintree Woman Who Stole from Quincy Newspaper Office
Karen A. Sullivan, 57, pleaded guilty to two counts of larceny of more than $250.

QUINCY, MA — A Braintree woman who stole about $271,000 while working at the Patriot Ledger's office will not spend time in jail.
Karen A. Sullivan, 57, pleaded guilty to two counts of larceny of more than $250. She was sentenced Monday to five years of probation. Judge Beverly Cannone said she wanted Sullivan to perform community service and try to pay restitution to the newspaper's parent company.
With the guilty plea, Sullivan admits to stealing nearly a quarter-million dollars from Gatehouse Media New England. As the manager of Gatehouse's circulation department in the Quincy office, Sullivan was in charge of receiving collections for the Ledger, the Enterprise, and the Taunton Daily Gazette.

The company became suspicious when the amount of money that came into the office but wasn't clear by the bank increased from $28,000 to $271,000 by 2013.
A restitution hearing is scheduled for July 28. Sullivan was ordered to perform four hours of community service a week until the hearing.
