Quincy Police Lieutenant Guilty Of Working Paid Details While On Regular Shifts

A Quincy lieutenant has been found guilty of defrauding the city of about $11,000 by working private details while on the clock for the city

QUINCY, MA — A Quincy police lieutenant has been found guilty of defrauding the city of about $8,000 by working private details while on the clock for the city.

Thomas Corliss was convicted of 10 counts of mail fraud and one count of embezzlement. He was acquitted on two counts of mail fraud, according to the Patriot Ledger.

An internal investigation by the Quincy Police Department revealed that Corliss had collected double pay for working multiple details and/or police shifts that overlapped on multiple occasions in 2015. While on vacation in the Bahamas and on Martha’s Vineyard in 2015, Corliss did not use his vacation time. In total, Corliss defrauded the QPD of more than $8,000, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Corliss faces up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000 for the mail fraud charges and up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000 for the embezzlement charge.

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 7.
