State Trooper Michael Bucca borrowed a kayak to rescue a woman who was trapped in the current 100 yards off shore of Wollaston Beach.
QUINCY, MA — A woman rescued from drowning off Wollaston Beach is in critical condition, according to State Police. At 12:40 p.m. Friday, emergency officials were called to the beach when witnesses said the woman got naked, jumped in the water and got trapped in the current 100 yards off shore.
State Police Trooper Michael Bucca borrowed a kayak belonging to an off-duty Quincy police officer and paddled out to the woman and pulled her aboard. Troopers Vernon Hubbard and Matthew Braga were on a State Police boat close by. The officers got the woman aboard the police boat and Bucca and Braga performed CPR as Hubbard brought the boat ashore to the Wollaston Yacht Club.
The woman was rushed to Boston Medical Center. All first responders were not injured. One Quincy police officer who jumped in the water in a wet suit during rescue efforts was taken to a local hospital for precautionary reasons.
