Cambridge Man Arrested Near Quincy School After Police Chase: MSP

A witness told police the suspect jumped over a fence onto Montclair Elementary School grounds after ditching his car nearby.

QUINCY, MA — A Cambridge man was arrested after police said he led local police and state troopers on a car chase, before getting out of his car and cutting through the grounds of an elementary school.

Raymond Clair, 42, was charged with failure to stop for police, possession of crack-cocaine, and driving on a suspended license. State police said a trooper went to pull Clair over, just before noon on Thursday for driving without an inspection sticker. According to police, Clair kept driving, taking a turn from West Squantum Street onto Safford Street. Police told WHDH that when Clair turned, he drove directly into oncoming traffic, so several cars had to swerve out of the way.

Clair then ditched his car in a nearby parking lot and ran away, police told the Patriot Ledger. Police said there was crack cocaine in his car.The state trooper said he lost sight of Clair, but a witness told the officer Clair jumped over a fence onto Montclair Elementary School grounds. Quincy and State police surrounded the school and started a search for Clair. Police said they later saw Clair run out of a nearby backyard and try to hide inside a parked FedEx truck. The driver was in the truck, but told police Clair got in the truck without asking the driver and then asked if he could hide there.
