Underground Fire Reported In Quincy
Police say the explosion took place on Hancock Street in Quincy Center.

QUINCY, MA — Police and firefighters are responding to a report of an underground fire on Hancock Street in Quincy Center.
Police say National Grid has been notified and businesses in the area have been evacuated.
The fire is located near the intersection of Hancock Street and Hannon Parkway.

Fire officials say the fire was likely caused by rain and water hitting a transformer.

Due to the nature of the blaze, firefighters have been unable to use water and are spraying a chemical instead.

Police announced at 5 p.m. that the fire was out.
Traffic was diverted away from the area and the road was closed from Hannon Parkway to Granite Street. The MBTA was notified and buses were rerouted.
