Winthrop Street Fire Causes Evacuations In Quincy
Quincy police said evacuations and road closures were conducted in Houghs Neck neighborhood while crews battle Friday night fire.
QUINCY, MA — Fire crews on Houghs Neck worked to contain a fire on Winthrop Street in Quincy Friday night. Quincy police said evacuations and road closures were being conducted in the surrounding neighborhood starting on Friday afternoon when the fire ignited.

WBZ-AM reported the people were initially trapped inside the house and there is at least one injury from burns. There were also reports of possible ammunition in the house, which forced firefighters to battle the blaze from the outside.

High winds added the difficulty of completely knocking down the fire in a neighborhood where houses are close together and there was concern the Winthrop Street fire might jump to another structure. Nearly three hours after the fire was first reported, the damage to the three-family house was severe.
