Forum Explores Funding for Schools
A public information session in Wakefield will provide residents with information on education funding reforms.

Residents in the 5th Middlesex district can learn more about state education finance reform at a public meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
The session will discuss possible solutions to issues in state education financing and explain how finance reform resources are allocated.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, offer feedback and discuss the issues at hand.

The session begins at at 6:30 p.m. in The Savings Bank Theater at Wakefield High School, 60 Farm St.
“I am committed to making sure that our cities and towns receive adequate and equitable resources from the Commonwealth in order to provide a second-to-none public education for our young people,” Senator Jason Lewis said.

Presenters include Lewis, Christopher Callanan, Wakefield School Committee member, and Colin Jones, Education Policy Analyst at Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center.
Jones will break down the Chapter 70 financing formula, a program that provides state aid to schools and establishes minimum spending requirements in each school district.
Lewis, Dr. Stephen Zrike, Wakefield Superintendent of Schools, and Wakefield School Committee are hosting the meeting.
