Proposed Changes To Town Charter Included In Upcoming Reading Election

Several proposed changes to Reading's charter, which outlines how the town is governed, will be on the ballot.

READING, MA — Voters will weigh in on proposed changes to the town charter at the town election April 7.

The changes include updating and modernizing the charter's language, such as redefining terms like "majority vote" and making language gender neutral.

The Town Meeting referendum process and the process to recall an elected official would also be changed.

Reading's Home Rule Charter, which outlines how the town is governed, is required to be reviewed at least once every 10 years, according to The Reading Observer.

Voters will also cast their ballots for various municipal offices, including Select Board and School Committee.
