Statement On Latest Graffiti At RMHS

Graffiti of a concerning nature was discovered in the Fine Arts Area of RMHS.

The following press release is from Reading Police Chief Mark Segalla and Superintendent of Schools John Doherty:

We wanted to make the Community aware that on Friday, February 16th at 3:30 p.m., students reported to RMHS staff that graffiti of a concerning nature was discovered in the RMHS Fine Arts Area of Reading Memorial High School. Police were notified and the incident is currently under investigation.

There was no danger or threat communicated in the graffiti message and the contents of the message is
considered a low threat due to the lack of specificity.

The Reading Police Department and the Reading Public Schools take the safety of our staff and students as our utmost priority. We work collaboratively throughout the year to ensure that our school safety plans and drills are followed and that those plans are updated to reflect the changing times in our society. Each year, every school undergoes two ALICE active shooter drills, four evacuation drills, and one shelter in place drill. In addition, Reading Memorial High School conducts a canine search on an annual basis. Our school and district administrators are in constant communication with our School Resource Officer and other Reading Police Staff and follow up on any concerns that are brought up.
