Roslindale Resident Margaret Minor Wood Appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Boston Foundation for Architecture

Pinck & Co. www.pinck-co.com is pleased to announce that its senior staff member Margaret Minor Wood has been named Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Boston Foundation for Architecture. A graduate of Harvard University and the University of Virginia, Margaret has 33 years experience in the architecture field, managing fast paced projects with major pre-construction challenges.  She is the past president of the Massachusetts AIA and past board member of the BSA.

Margaret has led many key projects in her current role at Pinck & Company including the South End’s Castle Square Housing re-development and its 500 unit innovative deep-energy retrofit, the renovation and expansion of Norton High School, the construction of a new middle school and track for the Innovation Academy Charter School as well as the renovation of a historic Roxbury building for the Brooke Charter School.  She also managed the design and construction of the first natural playground in Boston for the Crispus Attucks Children’s Center in Roxbury.  This is a first of its kind outdoor play area in Boston's inner city providing a nature-based environment for pre-schoolers designed to stimulate the senses and foster interaction while creating a sense of intimacy with the natural world.

Prior to joining Pinck & Company, Margaret was a Senior Associate at Leers Weinzapfel Associates where her work included pre-construction project management for the joint design team of Fumihiko Maki Associates and Leers Weinzapfel for the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge. The project received a 2013 Harleston Parker award from the Boston Society of Architects.  She also led the design for Fenton Judicial Center in Lawrence, a 10 courtroom complex which consolidated District, Probate, and Juvenile court functions and support services.

The Boston Foundation for Architecture was created by the Boston Society of Architects in 1984 to support public education programs in Massachusetts related to the built environment. Over the years, the BFA has supported community-based programs including Boston Family Boat Building which assists the existing boat building program activities and the planning process to expand the program to other Boston schools. The BFA also supports in-school educational programs like Urban Neighborhood Design Alliance assisting City/Build, a curriculum enrichment program for Boston public high school students that introduces the fields of architecture, engineering, development and construction.   Through its grants, the Foundation also provides conferences, lectures, and other community activities. Since its inception, the BFA has distributed more than $960,000 in grants to public- and private-sector groups.  The goal of the Foundation is to enhance public understanding of the built environment and the processes that shape it.
