Bruins Ference Congratulates Two Roslindale Summer Stars

Honorees received a certificate of achievement from Menino, and will be honored at a Boston Celtics game during the upcoming season.

 

Two Boston teenagers were among several honored by Boston Bruins player Andrew Ference and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, for being Summer Stars.

Roslindale’s Rafael Baez was nominated by the BCYF Roslindale Community Center, as was Roslindal's Owen McKenzie.

The Mayor’s Summer Stars were honored at the Parkman House recently in downtown Boston. The Summer Stars were chose for going "above and beyond this summer, contributing positively to their communities and serving as role models for their peers."

The Stars ranged in ages from eight to 18, and were nominated for the new award by BCYF staff members for leadership and service to their communities. Honorees received a certificate of achievement from Menino, and will be honored at a Boston Celtics game during the upcoming season.

Along with Menino, and Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference, Boston’s Chief of Human Services/BCYF Executive Director Daphne Griffin and former Red Sox pitcher Jim Lonborg were at the awards ceremony.
