MBTA Apologizes for Service Issues; Gov. Baker to Meet with Transportation Officials
Evening commute delays and cancellations are possible.

Rail service, particularly on the Red Line and commuter rail, was severely impacted for the morning rush hour Tuesday.
Just after 9:30 a.m., the MBTA issued a service alert saying shuttle buses were replacing Green Line service between Kenmore and Haymarket stations, CBS Boston reported. Gov. Charlie Baker told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 that he’d be meeting with transportation officials later on Tuesday.
Commuter rail delays and cancellations should be expected through the evening commute due to the cold, said Mac Daniel, a spokesman for commuter rail operator Keolis.

The MBTA said fares would be waived for customers boarding commuter rail trains between Braintree and JFK/UMass Tuesday.
MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott said to the Boston Globe that the T would not be able to boost service on Wednesday during the Patriots victory parade, which is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. outside the Hynes Convention Center in downtown Boston.

Boston.com also noted that morning delays were most acute on the Red Line because of its aging equipment. The MBTA was down about half of its Red Line vehicles.
The line is “more than telling its age over this week,” Scott, who is also company CEO, said to the Boston Globe. She also said the problems were due to “the lack of investment through the years.”
Commuters are being asked by the MBTA to check their website for subway service alerts and updates. Riders can sign up for the company’s e-mail and text message update service T-Alerts by clicking here.
