20 Kentucky Flood Rescue Cats Headed To Salem Animal Shelter

The 20 new cats are in addition to the Florida kittens and catch at the Northeast Animal Shelter for this weekend's "adopt-a-thon."

SALEM, MA — Twenty cats rescued from flooded areas of Kentucky are headed to Salem to join the more than 100 Florida rescues at the Northeast Animal Shelter.

The Shelter said on Friday that cats were rescued on an emergency basis following weeks of rain in the region that has destroyed homes and cost human lives.

"This transport is on top of the 138 cats that just arrived from Florida, so our resources are stretched thin," the Shelter said.

The Florida felines were rescued from overpopulated shelters and flown to Massachusetts where they will be put up for adoption in Salem and other MSCPA-Angell shelters as part of the "Clear the Shelters" weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

The Northeast Animal Shelter staff will help prospective adopters meet and choose the kitten or cat that is right for their family.

An advanced appointment for the Florida kitten and cat "meet & adopt event" is required and can be reserved here. Space is limited.
