Salem Cancels Christmas Tree Bonfire
The city is asking residents to not drop off Christmas trees at Dead Horse Beach.

SALEM, MA -- City officials canceled the Christmas tree bonfire that had been scheduled for Friday night as a result of continuing cold and wind, and the snowstorm predicted to dump as much as a foot of snow on the region Thursday. The city is not rescheduling the bonfire and is asking residents to not drop off trees at Dead Horse beach, where the bonfire was to have been held.
Separately, the city said Tuesday that curbside Christmas tree collection would be delayed one week because of mechanical issues faced by the city's trash collection contractor. Those problems could also delay regular trash pickup throughout the week.
