SALEM, MA — The MBTA commuter rail is making it easier to enjoy Salem Halloween events without having to drive into Salem for the next two weekends.

The MBTA has added six inbound and five outbound routes between Beverly and North Station over the next two Saturdays and Sundays.

Those taking the train to Salem are reminded that face masks are required for those 2 years and older on all MBTA trains and bicycles are not allowed on trains on the weekends.

With large crowds packing the downtown area this year after last year's coronavirus directive to stay away from the city, visitors are strongly advised not to drive to the downtown area. Parking is available at the Salem MBTA parking garage (about a five-minute walk from downtown) as well as Beverly and Lynn stations with a short train ride.

The city is also offering free shuttle service from satellite lots at Salem Hospital, Salem State University and Salem High School.
