Salem Man Agrees To Mental Health Evaluation After Standoff

Adam Jordan, 28, was holed up in a Charles Street apartment last weekend with his eight-month-old son.

SALEM, MA -- Adam Jordan, the 28-year-old Salem man who surrendered peacefully after an hours-long standoff with police last week, will undergo a mental health evaluation. Jordan waived his right to a detention hearing Friday. He is charged with kidnapping, witness intimidation, assault and battery, reckless endangerment of a child, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Jordan surrendered to Salem Police early on the morning of Dec. 30. Police were called to Charles Street around 8:30 pm Dec. 29, where Jordan was holed up in a house with his eight-month-old son and refusing to come out. Jordan surrendered around 12:30 am after several hours of negotiations.

The infant, who did not appear injured, was turned over to its mother. Prosecutors had sought a revocation of bail because of a prior domestic abuse charge against the infant's mother.
