Salem Medical Marijuana Dispensary Involved in Apparent Hack: Report
Systems were down, as of Monday afternoon, part of an apparent nationwide hack that included dispensaries in the state.

SALEM, MA — A Salem medical marijuana dispensary was among seven Massachusetts dispensaries impacted by an apparent hack of sales and tracking systems across the country according to the Boston Globe, picking up on a report by trade publication Marijuana Business Daily.
The Alternative Therapies Group located on 50 Grove St. in Salem posted on its website that it's sale software provider was experiencing a "nationwide service outage." The notice further indicated that the facility delayed its opening, and that patients should expect delays when heading to the facilities.

According to the Marijuana Business Daily paper, the MJ Freeway sales and inventory system is "widely used in the cannabis industry," and described as "a major tool for marijuana dispensaries, which use it to ring up sales to customers, track inventory, prepare required reports to state regulators and other business functions."
In an interview with the Globe, MJ Freeway's executive director of data and marketing described the incident as a targeted cyber-attack.
