Salem Names Two New Principals

The interim principals were named principal after the district posted the job openings in January.

SALEM, MA -- Salem Public Schools hired men who had been serving as interim principals to principal at the Bates Elementary and Collins Middle Schools. The district had posted the openings earlier this year, but ultimately decided to name Matt Condon principal at Collins and Jose "J.J." Munoz principal at Bates.

"Mr. Condon has been serving as the interim principal for the current school year, during which time he has demonstrated that he possesses the passion and drive to propel student achievement forward and create a positive and supportive learning environment for teachers and staff," the district said in an announcement on its Website.

Bates Elementary School Principal Thomas Milaschewski stepped down at the end of the 2017-18 school year, creating one of four vacancies at the 12 schools in the district. Milaschewski was accepted by Harvard University into a program to pursue a doctorate in Education.

"This school year Mr. Munoz has initiated Data Wise cycles for teachers to collaborate and improve their improve their instructional practice; facilitated the Instructional Leadership Team to strengthen collaboration for best instructional strategies and practices; implemented a school-wide house system to enhance social skills and inclusivity across grade levels and staff; and, decreased school-wide behavioral office referrals across grades and programs," the district said.
