Speeding Without a License, Man Refuses to Leave Emergency Room: Salem Police Logs

SALEM, MA — The following are excerpts from the Salem police logs. Information below does not indicate a conviction.

Dec. 15

12:43 a.m.: Police stopped a vehicle on Highland Ave for allegedly traveling 58 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone. The driver will be summonsed into court for speeding, attaching plates and operating a motor vehicle without being licensed.

Dec. 16

Police responded to the Salem ES for a man who refused to leave. Police found that the man had already left, and did not want to leave because it was cold outside. Police conducted a warrant check and found an active warrant out of Lowell District Court. He was placed under arrest and transported without incident.

7:32 a.m.: Police responded to the area of Loring Avenue at Rainbow Terrace for a car with its alarm going off. The car was parked legally and was not towed.

10:15 a.m.: Police spoke to a group of men in the area of the Essex Street East India Square Mall on a report of a group loitering in the area. The officer spoke with a group of homeless people who were trying to get out of the cold. The officer advised the people not to overstay their welcome in the mall. No other issues were observed.

Arrests

Dec. 16, 1:33 a.m.: Robert Arniello, 39, of Lynn was arrested on a warrant.

Dec. 15, 7 p.m.: Kathleen Frances Moreland, 44, of Lynn was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs and failure to yield at an intersection.

Dec. 15, 4:05 p.m.: Bjorn Alan Nichols, 23, of Salem was arrested on charges of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, attempt to commit a crime and a municipal by-law or ordinance violation.
