SALEM, MA — A messy mix of rain and possible wet snow forecast for Salem has forced the cancellation of the annual Christmas tree bonfire at Dead Horse Beach Friday night.

While a weather date had been listed as Saturday, the Salem Willows event has been canceled for the season because the trees were judged to be too wet to burn effectively through the weekend.

The bonfire had been canceled in recent years because of the COVID-19 health crisis.
