SHARON, MA — The Town of Sharon is reminding residents that mandatory outdoor water-use limits remain in effect.
Residents remain under mandatory outdoor water-use limits despite recent rainfall, the town announced on Monday. Outdoor water use is restricted to handheld hoses before 9 a.m. or after 5 p.m. through Oct. 1, 2026. The town said the restriction is mandatory and will be enforced.
Sharon is in the state's Southeast drought region, which remains under a Level 2 Significant Drought designation. The designation follows two years of below-average rainfall, declining streamflow and falling groundwater levels across Massachusetts, according to the state's drought status report.
Monitoring wells and production wells in Sharon remain at healthy levels, according to the town. However, state officials are seeking additional reductions in water use.
Public playing fields and agricultural uses are exempt from the restriction.
Under Sharon's outdoor water-use bylaw, violators may receive a warning for a first offense during a calendar year and a $50 penalty for a second violation. Subsequent violations may carry fines of up to $500, with each day considered a separate offense.
