Land Purchase, New Radio Equipment Approved at Town Meeting

On Monday, residents had their say on eight articles at the Sharon Special Town Meeting. Below is a summary of how residents voted on each article.
- Article 1 - To transfer $7,660 from the Treasurer’s Department to Accounting in order to smooth over some personal changes. - Passed
- Article 2 - To use $370,000 for the purchase and demolition of 175 Pond Street next to Sharon High School. Once demolition and removal is completed, the property will be placed in the care of the Sharon School Committee. - Passed
- Article 3 - To transfer about $769,000 in borrowed money from the Exempt Standing Building Middle School project to the Exempt Standing Building Public Safety Building project. The bonds were already issued to for the middle school and are restricted to capital building projects of a similar use and life. - Passed
- Article 4 - To approve the use of $25,000 for a study to determine the feasibility of renovating, expanding, or replacing the Sharon Public Library - Passed
- Article 5 - Appropriate about $88,000 to purchase new portable radios and related equipment for the Sharon Fire Department. - Passed
- Article 6 - To use $45,000 in funds from the Community Preservation Committee to repair the windows and roof of 21 South Pleasant Street and windows at the Sharon Public Library. The state will provide $111,000 in funds that was contingent on the town supplying $45,000 in matching funds. - Passed.
- Article 7 - To contribute to a stabilization fund for Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School. Town meeting voted to postpone the vote 50-47.
- Article 8 - To align the town’s animal regulation with the current changes in the animal control state laws. - Passed
