Boston Bridges Initiative, a not-for-profit organization seeking to build meaningful cross-racial relationships within and between suburban and urban communities in the Greater Boston area, recently provided grant funding for students from the Sharon Middle High School to go to a Celtics game. 36 students, half of which live and attend school in Sharon and half are students from the METCO program, who live in Boston and attend school in Sharon went to a Boston Celtics game at the TD Garden along with four chaperones, including the superintendent. Carla Hands, METCO Director for Sharon Public Schools applied for and received the grant to accomplish her goals of community building, motivating the students, using professional sports as an opportunity to discuss teamwork, and model inclusive behavior. The students who also visited the sports museum, where this picture was taken, had a wonderful time.
