Dr. Eric Greenspan of the Chiropractic Health Group in Cobbs Corner specializes in auto, work and athletic injuries.

Greenspan, a Sharon native and now Canton resident, helps patients with back and neck pain by making a few adjustments and manipulation to unlock a binding spinal joint.

Patch sat down with Greenspan to find out more about the conditions that can be treated from seeing a chiropractor and also a common concern of how safe is it to have your back and neck cracked.

Patch: What conditions do you treat?

Greenspan: I treat a variety of issues for a variety of different people of all ages. Most commonly, I treat back pain, neck pain and headaches. Additionally, due to my background as an athlete and an avid runner, I treat a lot of lower extremity injuries such as hip pain, knee injuries and foot injuries. I have treated everything from athletic injuries to auto and work related injuries.

Patch: What should a new patient expect on the first visit?

Greenspan: A new patient should expect to have all of their questions about their condition and health answered as well as their questions about chiropractic and the type of treatment which I render fully answered. A focused history and examination of their condition will be performed followed by a treatment suited to their needs as an individual patient. I pride myself on making sure all of my patients are comfortable and their diagnosis is made through a high degree of medical and chiropractic knowledge.

Patch: Is the chiropractic adjustment or “cracking” safe?

Greenspan: Chiropractic adjustments are widely known as one of the safest drug free and noninvasive treatments for musculoskeletal pain. Even though it is incredibly safe, just like any other treatment, there are potential side effects. Most patients experience immediate relief following treatment, but there is a chance you may experience mild soreness. It is the same type of soreness one would experience after exercise. The soreness fades away within 24 hours.

Patch: Once people start going to the chiropractor, is it true that they go forever?

Greenspan: No. They do not need to come forever. My purpose as a health professional is to set up goals with my patients and design a treatment plan to achieve those goals. Typically, those goals consist of decreasing pain, getting back on the golf course, recovering  from a car accident, returning to work, or completing a road race pain free. Once the treatment plan is successfully completed, the patient is free to go and is advised to call me if they require my services again. There are patients who see value in receiving treatment once per month such as chronic pain patients or athletes who like to stay ahead of the injury curve.

Patch: Does health insurance cover your services?

Greenspan: Yes, it does. Chiropractic care is covered in a variety of health insurance networks such as auto, workers compensation, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Tufts, Medicare and several others. Additionally, it is rare that one would need a referral from a family doctor to set up an appointment with me.
