Sharon Voters Approve New School Funding, Elect Switlekowski

Sharon voters approved funding for the new $163-million high school nearly 2-to-1; Hanna Switlekowski wins select board by 47 votes.

SHARON, MA — Sharon voters overwhelmingly approved a property tax override to pay for a new high school, and narrowly elected a new select board member, in the town special election held Tuesday. The select board race between Hanna Switlekowski and Susan Price wad decided by just 47 votes out of more than 3,800 cast.

The town voted to approve a Proposition 2½ override to support the $163 high school project and athletic facilities 64 percent to 36 percent. There were 2,557 votes for the school, and 1,413 votes against out of 4,000 votes counted, including 30 blanks.

Switlekowski edged Price in a very close race for select board with 50.27 percent of the vote to Price’s 49.05 percent. Switlekowski received 1,924 votes to Price’s 1,877 total. The difference in votes is less than the number of blanks cast (173) and less than twice as many as the write-in votes (26).

The overall interest in the special town election was high with 31.4 percent of the town's 12,719 registered voters casting a ballot.
