5 Things You Missed at the Selectmen's Meeting

The annual and special town meeting warrants totalled more than 40 articles.

The 5 things you missed at the Board of Selectmen's meeting include:

1. Welcoming a new member. The board welcomed newly-elected selectman Henry Fitzgerald to the board. They thanked former Selectman Benjamin Tartaglia for his service to the board. Selectman James Kane was voted chair, Selectman Maurice DePalo was voted vice-chair and Selectman Jon LeBeaux was voted clerk of the board.

2. An agreement continued. The board voted unanimously to renew the public health director services agreement with Worcester. This eliminates the need for a director of public health in Shrewsbury.

3. Warrant articles approved. The board voted unanimously to approve the articles on the annual and special town meeting warrant with the exception of a handful of articles that they will recommend to be removed.

4. Road Race approved. The board unanimously approved a request made by Connie O'Connell to hold a road race on June 19 to raise money for St. Mary's Parish "Race to Build," which is a high school student volunteer summer service project.

5. Ruff Road Race. The board also approved a request by Nancy Boren to hold a 5k dog road race and a 1 mile fun run beginning and ending at Oak Middle School on Oct. 8 to benefit the new playground at Paton School.

The next meeting of the board is Monday, May 23, at 7 p.m.
