5 Things You Missed at the Selectmen's Meeting

The library construction project is moving forward to Special Town Meeting.

The met Tuesday night. Here's what you missed.

1. The Library Trustees updated selectmen on news from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners that the new library building for a $7,959,989 grant in 2014. Trustees told selectmen they have been assured the project will receive the full grant and that the amount won't change even if the town waits a few years to proceed with the project.

2. Selectmen agreed that the time to move forward with the library construction project is now and voted unanimously to direct Town Manager Daniel J. Morgado to prepare a warrant article for a Special Town Meeting to be held Sept. 26.

3. Selectmen also shared their evaluation of Morgado, who has been town manager for the past 13 years. Among many praises, selectmen called Morgado a "patient and flexible" manager whose management of the town's various boards and committees is excellent, a recognized leader in his field who is respected both within and outside the community, and an "excellent leader."

4. In light of the United States losing its AAA credit rating, selectmen asked Morgado how the town was doing financially. Morgado informed the board that there has been no change to the town's current "very strong" position and that it maintains its AA rating, one of the highest awarded. "We're holding our own and we continue to do very well," he said.

5. Additionally, selectmen voted unanimously to reappoint Town Engineer Jack Perreault to the Westborough Treatment Plant Board for a term of three years to expire Sept. 30, 2014.

The next meeting of the selectmen is scheduled for Aug. 23 at 7 p.m.
