SHREWSBURY, MA — The town celebrated one of its oldest residents with a special ceremony this week.
Carmen Martone, who has been a resident of Shrewsbury since 1957 and served on the town's Planning Board in the 1980s, celebrated his 100th birthday on Tuesday.
"Carmen has been an incredible member of our community for seventy years and we were honored to celebrate this milestone with him," the town shared in a news release via social media.
To mark the birthday, Town Manager Kevin Mizikar presented Carmen with an official town proclamation on behalf of the Select Board. The town said turning 100 is no everday occurance, so it was special to celebrate the occasion with him.
The town is inviting the community to wish Carmen a happy birthday in the comments, and they will compile all the birthday messages to send to him.
